Default 55 Necro? Help a newbie out

I'm new to GW and have been playing a necro for a while. I've run into farming guides talking about the 55 hp necro build, but they all assume you understand what a 55 necro is.

So obviously you want your hitpoints to be 55, but why?
Some speak of having your armor set be a 15 armor set, again why?

I'm curious to the advanced mechanics of the class and since both of these seem counter intuitive, after all less armor and less than noob hitpoints seems odd. I'm assuming its based on the % based spells.

Protective Spirit
Enchantment Spell. (5...19...23 seconds.) Incoming damage is reduced to 10% of target ally's maximum Health.

basically this spell will reduce all damage to 10% of 55 health regardless of your armor. therefore, it is unnecessary to spend 5k+ on max armour, when u can spend 50g on starter armor.

you have a starter armor coz protective spirit does all the work for u..

You reduce your max hp to 55 and use Protective Spirit(reduces all dmg taken to 10% of your max hp) to make all the damage u get be -5hp.
then, with some regeneratin from e.g healing breeze you instantly get full hp back.

it's not the hitpoints reduced to 55. it's your health points =]

Spirit Bond is the reason for that; some of the builds use that skill. Low armor means you'll take more damage so you can take the 60 or more that is required for Spirit Bond to trigger. If you don't use Spirit Bond, your armor doesn't matter for a 55 build, but the 15 armor sets are cheaper.
